In development

Emelka

A medieval fantasy card game, designed from scratch for virtual reality.

In Emelka nobody sits and watches. Every round, both players untap, draw, gain resources and deploy at the same time. The only thing that alternates is who can attack, and the Crown decides that.

Knight of the March

The round

  1. 1

    Untap

Everything is ready again, except creatures that attacked last round.

  2. 2

    Draw

    Each player draws 1 card.

  3. 3

    Resources

Each player gains the round’s Levy and +1 Mana.

  4. 4

    Deploy

The player with priority starts, but both deploy.

  5. 5

    Combat

The player with priority attacks. The opponent defends.

  6. 6

    Close

The Crown is resolved and souls are collected.

The Crown

  • The Crown marks who holds attack priority. Only its holder attacks.
  • If your attack deals at least the threshold damage to your opponent, you keep priority and the Crown. If not, priority passes to your opponent.
  • The threshold is global and only goes up: it starts at 1 and grows every time either player reaches it. Holding the Crown keeps getting harder.
  • In the first round nobody has priority: open field, both players can attack.
  • The Crown does not win the game. You win by bringing your opponent to zero life, and letting it go on purpose to regroup is a legitimate play.

Two resources

Levy

Builds
  • Automatic and identical for both players. It does not carry over.
  • Pays for creatures, equipment and enchantments.
  • Grows every two rounds: 2 · 2 · 3 · 3 · 4 · 4 · 5 · 5 · 6, and stops at 6.

Mana

Reacts
  • +1 per round, and it accumulates if you do not spend it.
  • +1 extra for every 4 of your creatures that die: those are souls.
  • Pays for blocks, spells and activated abilities.

Combat

Attacking spends

An attacking creature does not untap next round and cannot defend. Sustained damage takes width, not size.

Blocking costs

Each blocking creature costs 1 Mana, unless it has Bulwark.

New arrivals

A freshly deployed creature cannot attack that round, but it can block.

The clans

Three peoples at launch, each with a trait shared by all their creatures. The Elves will arrive later.

Aggressive

Goblins

They explode on death: 1 damage to the opponent.

Fast, cheap and crude. They win through width, attacking with more creatures than the opponent can afford to block. Their forge is sloppy and their mages destroy without aim.

Balanced

Humans

They move equipment for free.

Disciplined and the best smiths. Their equipped creature attacks, becomes spent, and the sword passes to a fresh one to keep up the pressure.

Patient

Beasts

Plenty of Bulwark, no equipment.

They were here before anyone founded anything. They hold without spending, bank Mana for rounds and unleash it at the end.

Keywords

Overfly
Can only be blocked by creatures with Overfly.
Overrun
Excess damage carries over to the player.
Charge
Attacks the round you deploy it.
Relentless
Attacking does not make it spent.
Bulwark
Blocking with it costs no Mana.

Callings

Callings cross the clans: Smith, Mage, Warrior and Scout. The smiths of all three peoples understand each other, which opens decks built around a single clan or a single calling.

Emelka is in development: rules and balance are still being tuned, and it is planned to reach the table after the deck mode that is already available.
